Warner Brothers Starts Moving on A Discovery of Witches
It was back in the middle of Comic-Con last year when Warner Brothers announced that it had acquired the screen rights to A Discovery of Witches, the bestselling novel by Deborah Harkness. Now, several months later, this witches brew is finally bubbling.
According to Variety, David Auburn (best known as the author of the play Proof, for which won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play and the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for drama and subsequently adapted for the 2005 film) has come on to adapt Harkness' novel for WB and producers Denise Di Novi and Allison Greenspan.
The debut novel is about a centuries-old vampire, a spellbound witch, and a mysterious manuscript that draws them together.
The studio is obviously looking to tap the fantasy vein now that the Harry Potter series has concluded so look for more on this one soon!
