New York Comic Con 2013: See the Trailer for Renny Harlin's Hercules: The Legend BeginsWe’ve been conditioned to expect certain things when we hear about movies with mythological themes. Generally, just the mere mention of myth and film together conjures images of giant monsters, devious spell casters, winged horses, and huge pectoral muscles.

After attending the NYCC panel for Millennium Films’ Hercules: The Legend Begins, starring The Twilight Saga‘s Kellan Lutz as the title character, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee, Liam McIntyre, Rade Serbedzija, and Johnathon Schaech, it appears the film may have just one out of the four things described above. Of course it’s hard to tell since we’ve only seen one trailer, but since that footage was devoid of any snarling minotaurs, rampaging lion-scorpion-eagles, or any other “trial”-like instances, it’s probably safe to say this incarnation focuses on a more human story.

Cast and crew shed no further light on this, only speaking of wild horses, shaven bodies, female attention, the perils of 3D, and a love story draped across it all amid their tales of shooting the film.

I was going to bang out my full description of the movie’s trailer shown during said panel, but the internet has already birthed it so give it a look below:

As you can see, we’ve got lots of bare-chested dudes and feats of strength, but aside from a little lightning throwing toward the end, there may not be a whole lot of Harryhausen-esque moments here… which I suspect means this is the last you’ll hear about this title on Dread Central unless we catch a clip of a giant stone warrior going toe-to-toe with our favorite Twilight bruiser. Wait and see!
