World War Z: Survival Day Fallout!

After a well publicized turbulent production, World War Z surprised everyone by raking in major box office dollars and – most importantly – not sucking. The unrated version of the film hits Blu-ray today, and to celebrate, Paramount Pictures held a “Survival Day” for the press at the Old Zoo in Los Angeles, CA.

Arriving on the scene, we were greeted by armed military commandos who ushered us into Humvees. After hauling ass through Griffith Park, we were dropped off at the “Quarantine Zone” – a special encampment where we were checked for infection and led into a waiting area. Among the group of journalists was actress Daniella Kertesz (the one-handed Israeli soldier Segen), who was on hand to talk about her experiences saving Brad Pitt’s ass.

First off, survival specialist Sam Sheridan, author of The Disaster Diaries: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Apocalypse, demonstrated several survival skills and techniques and taught us how to rig a deadfall trap to catch rats in the wild. Following that, chef Bruce Waring showed us how to live off the fat of the land by cooking and preparing cactus (which was damn tasty). Rest assured, if any of us find ourselves stranded in the wilderness, we’d last a lot longer than that loser from Into the Wild.

From there, knife-fighting instructor and Grandmaster martial artist Mark Mikita demonstrated the most efficient way to decapitate a zombie along with Freddie Joe Farnsworth, senior military technical advisor, whose job was to make the film’s military presence “as authentic as possible.” Journalists were even given padded sticks and taught how to fight. But most sat back and watched Birdemic’s Whitney Moore (!) throw herself into action by wailing on a colleague with prop weapons.

WORLD WAR Z will be available on Blu-ray Combo or Blu-ray 3D Combo with an Unrated Cut packed with even more thrills and action too intense for theaters, along with the theatrical version of the film. The combo packs feature UltraViolet™ and boast in-depth looks at the making of the film, the seamless blending of practical and digital effects, the science behind the zombie outbreak and much more. The film will also be available as a single-disc DVD.
