B-Sides: Snake Plissken Is The One

John Carpenter and Kurt Russell brought Snake Plissken back to the big screen 15 years after he escaped from New York. This time, earthquake-ravaged Los Angeles was the geographic prison he had to infiltrate and escape from. The results were a mixed bag at best, but the theme song by White Zombie was definitely “The One.”
The 1996 sequel Escape from LA saw Snake Plissken arrested and offered a pardon for his crimes once more if he agrees to venture into the island prison that used to be the City of Los Angeles in order to retrieve the controls to an EMP super-weapon the Pat Robertson-esque President of United States plans to smite our enemies with.
The follow-up to 1981’s hit Escape from New York would prove to be a financial flop at the box office and didn’t do much better with critics and fanboys. At least it had a pretty cool soundtrack, even though only about three of the songs on it actually appeared in the movie.
The best song on the album, the one most prominently featured in the film, is a ripping White Zombie track titled “The One.” If not for a song on the Beavis & Butthead Do America soundtrack, “The One” could very well have been the last one from White Zombie before their 1998 break-up.
