Exclusive: Whitney Able Sheds Light on DarkThe massive 2003 blackout that engulfed New York and several other states in complete darkness was a scary time for many East Coasters. Of course that translates into perfect fodder for a horror film. On tap right now is an exclusive video with actress Whitney Able talking about her new project Dark.

Joe Dante is set to executive produce a thriller that takes place in New York City during the hours of darkness. But he needs your help in raising production costs. And he’s offering up some pretty awesome rewards to anyone who lends a hand!

From the Press Release
Iconic director Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling) has teamed up with indie filmmaker Nick Basile (American Carny: True Tales from the Circus Sideshow) to launch a crowd-funding campaign on Kickstarter for the indie thriller DARK, in the hope of raising $50,000 to help cover associated production costs. Basile will helm the film from a script penned by Elias (Gut). Attached to star are Whitney Able (Monsters, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) and Alexandra Breckenridge (“American Horror Story,” “True Blood”). Dante will serve as executive producer.

A psychological thriller set in New York City during the 2003 blackout, DARK’s story centers on Kate, a disturbed young woman who confronts her worst fears when she finds herself trapped alone in a Brooklyn loft when the power goes out.

“I’ve always been attracted to projects by young filmmakers who are trying to do something within their means,” says Dante, “DARK has been conceived in this manner and has the opportunity to be a very suspenseful and commercial picture.”

“We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Joe Dante on DARK,” says Basile, “and we can’t think of a better time to launch the campaign than the 10th anniversary of the blackout.”

Campaign perks will range from exclusive Gremlins memorabilia to Blu-rays of The Howling – Collector’s Edition, autographed by Dante himself. Higher level rewards will include visits to the set and walk-on roles.

Head over to Kickstarter to donate to the fund!
