Rest in Peace - Karen BlackLosing an icon of the industry is never easy, and when it happens, our hearts drop and we feel just a bit more empty inside. That’s the feeling we have today as we are sad to report that the legendary Karen Black has lost her long battle with cancer. She was 74.

The news comes directly from Karen’s Facebook page, where her husband, Stephen Eckelberry, left the following message for fans moments ago…

“It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black, has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me.”

Black will always be remembered for her amazing body of work including The Great Gatsby, Airport ’75, Easy Rider, Nashville, Five Easy Pieces, Trilogy of Terror, Day of the Locust, Burnt Offerings, Invaders from Mars, Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean, House of 1000 Corpses and so many more. A staple on the convention scene for the last several years, Black was always honored to meet fans, and she was as humble as they come. Her warmth, quirky sense of humor, and mischievous smile are something fans and family will carry with them for some time to come.

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to extend our deepest of condolences to Karen’s friends, family, and constituents. Bless you. You will be sorely missed, and we thank you for all of the wonderful memories. Godspeed.
