Final Destination 5 Reviews Roundup

Since Final Destination 5 is doing its damnedest to wash away the bad memory of the last installment (and for our own Heather Wixson it has), we thought that you might be interested in what some of the other critics are saying about the movie.

Final Destination 5, Steven Quale, Tony Todd, Nick D'Agosto, Emma BellIn case you haven't been reading Dread Central religiously (and shame on you if you haven't), Final Destination 5 stars Nicholas D'Agosto, Emma Bell, Miles Fisher, Arlen Escarpeta, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, P.J. Byrne, and Ellen Wroe as well as Tony Todd, Courtney B. Vance and David Koechner. Steven Quale directed from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer. Craig Perry provided producing duties.

In her Dread Central review of Final Destination 5, Heather said that:
"Final Destination 5 is not only gruesomely entertaining, but it has managed to breathe new life into the franchise, making a huge fan out of me all over again."

She's not alone. A few of the other critics like it too:

Scott Bowles, USA Today: "3-D is employed the way it should be: with jump-out-of-your-seat scares. Impaled victims, licking flames, shattering glass -- horror may have found a home in the third dimension."

Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle: "Final Destination 5 is irresistible, and the reason it's irresistible is that it speaks to us in the language we all understand, which is fear.

However, Mike Hale of The New York Times wasn't too impressed: "The deaths, which tend to be squirmy rather than explosive, are so perfunctory and lazily jokey that they leave a decidedly bad aftertaste."

I saw it today...it was light years better than part 4, but that's not exactly saying much since that flick was complete horse shit.

It's not better than my personal favorite part 2 but I did enjoy it. It made me laugh, it made me smile, it did everything you come to expect from a Final Destination movie. The whole scene with the guy at the massage parlor cracked me the fuck up...

I think I read in a review (on here?) that the new curveball in the plot of killing someone and exchanging places with death was a breath of fresh air and made the movie. Well...I'm not agreeing with that. I thought it was never fully used to it's full potential (I expected a Battle Royale type sub-plot) and basically only used as a device to set up the final kill. It didn't impress me very much how it played out.

The movie still had plenty of "been there, done that" moments so I never felt blown away from what I was watching. I enjoyed it, I'll happily add it to my Blu Ray collection, but I'm not going to be telling all my friends "you really got to see this...".
