Go Ballistic for a New Five-Issue Comic from Black Mask StudiosBack in February when we first learned about Black Mask Studios, founded by Steve Niles, Matt Pizzolo, and Brett Gurewitz, we mentioned Ballistic, a psychedelic and bizarre buddy adventure, would be arriving on June 26th. We now have artwork and more details.

Below is cover art for the first two installments in this five-issue series written by Adam Egypt Mortimer with art by Darick Robertson. As mentioned, Issue #1 will be out on June 26th with #2 and #3 following on July 31st and August 28th, respectively. You can click here to pre-order all three from TFAW.

Synopsis:
Welcome to Repo City State, where everyone’s an asshole… even the air conditioners.

Darick Robertson (Happy, The Boys, Transmetropolitan) and Adam Egypt Mortimer (director of Grant Morrison’s upcoming Sinatoro) have created a madcap, psychedelic, transreal, utterly-wacko buddy adventure about Butch and his best friend, Gun, a drug-addicted, genetically-modified, foul-mouthed firearm, as they attempt to elevate Butch from air conditioner repairman to master criminal in the twisted, post-eco-apocalyptic Repo City State, a reclaimed trash island built entirely from DNA-based, living technology with bad attitudes.

Ballistic marks Darick Robertson’s return to the hard sci-fi worldbuilding of his classic Transmetropolitan but mixed with The Boys’ ultra-violence and the lunacy of Happy. Mortimer’s mix of speculative science, pulpy noire, and drug-addled adventure cooks up a strange brew of Lethal Weapon by way of Cronenberg meets Dr. Who if written by Odd Future.

As Mortimer put it when letting us know about the project, “With Niles as publisher, ultra-violent sequences lovingly rendered by Darick with plenty of blood splatters, a world design firmly inspired by Cronenberg, especially Videodrome and eXistenZ, Ballistic should certainly be of interest to Dread Central readers!” We concur so look for more soon, including an exclusive or two.
