Dance of the Damned Slated for Remake - With the Original Director
"Remake" is a mighty dirty word round these parts. But this just might be a case of the best reason for a remake. Dance of the Damned (not of the Dead) is slated to be remade in 2012, and the original director Katt Shea will be calling the shots once again. Shea is no stranger to genre fans, helming Poision Ivy, Stripped to Kill and The Rage: Carrie II.
In the original Dance of the Damned, a vampire follows his instincts to a strip joint where he focuses in on one of the performers. He picks her for his meal because she is contemplating suicide, but he wants to share her life before taking it, and during the course of the evening they discuss their differences, their fears and their lifestyles. As the moment of truth approaches, the woman becomes less sure that she wants to die.
Revisiting old territory can be a dangerous thing, but Shea isn't scared ...
From the Press Release
Shea decided to tackle a remake of her own film because the concept behind Dance of the Damned has the potential to resonate with a new generation of moviegoers. Dance of the Damned is about the human condition. It's a universal concept that's timeless and has the ability to engage viewers in a unqiue way through a film that combines elements of horror and drama.
This is obviously a project that is close to Shea's heart, and it will be interesting to see how it comes together the second time around. Dance of the Damned is in pre-production and carries the legendary Roger Corman as executive producer.
