Massive Updates for Texas Frightmare Weekend
Tons of new stuff has been coming out for the upcoming Texas Frightmare Weekend, which is shaping up to have its biggest year yet. And quite frankly, I'm jealous I won't be there.
First we have the unveiling of the con's first ever full-color program guide. Weighing in at 32 pages, each attendee will get one free at registration. It's chock-full of all the vital details you will need to make the most of your weekend in Texas, including guest info, vendor and guest maps, a full schedule, a map of the hotel, and the biggest news: a first look at the 2012 TFM location.
In case you won't be there, you can still check out the program guide below. Consider it motivation to be there next year.
Next, Red Carpet Crash and the Asian Film Festival of Dallas are going to help you "get your shriek on" at Texas Frightmare Weekend with "Helldriver Scaryoke" on Friday, April 29. This special karaoke event will take place right after the TFW premiere screening of Helldriver with Yoshihiro Nishimura and Eihi Shiina slated to attend. However, Red Carpet Crash is also teasing that there might be some very special crooning by Mel House, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, and David Della Rocco. And, in what is undoubtedly the most terrifying part of the announcement, "Don’t think we’re not trying to get [Human Centipede] filmmaker Tom Six and actor Dieter Laser to get up and sing 'Stuck in the Middle With You'."
Texas Frightmare Weekend, Rue Morgue, and Anchor Bay Entertainment want YOU to design your own cover of Rue Morgue! If you think you have the design skills, show them off, and you just might win some sweet prizes.
The grand prize winner will receive a one-year subscription to Rue Morgue, one double Texas Frightmare 2012 V.I.P. weekend pass, a DVD pack from Anchor Bay Entertainment, and Rue Morgue and Texas Frightmare swag packs! Runner-up prizes are also up for grabs. Winning designs will appear in the magazine, both print and digital, and promoted online.
TO QUALIFY: Entries should be 8" x 10.75" in size, MUST use the Rue Morgue logo (downloadable here), and will be judged by Rue Morgue Art Director Ghoulish Gary Pullin for:
- ORIGINALITY (fresh ideas and innovation)
- COMPOSITION (relationship of type vs. image)
- IMPACT (execution and quality of the overall design)
- PRESENTATION (must be presented clean and neatly, flat or on a small easel)
Original illustrations and photographs are encouraged. Designers using movie stills (e.g., Pinhead, Leatherface, etc.) must use an illustration or treat the photo. Contest is only open to Texas Frightmare Weekend attendees, guests, and vendors. Entries accepted at the Rue Morgue booth at Texas Frightmare Weekend until noon on SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2011. Winners will be announced later that day at 2 p.m.
Finally, as we reported previously, Texas Frightmare Weekend is hosting the Texas premiere of Lucky McKee's The Woman, which will be preceded by Andrew van den Houten's Offspring (which The Woman is a sequel to). The double-bill will take place Thursday, April 28th, starting at 7:00 pm at the Studio Movie Grill (1600 South Stemmons, Lewisville, TX). Red carpet for The Woman begins at 8:30 pm.
BUY TICKETS HERE or at the theater. Only $15 for both movies! Lucky McKee, Sean Bridgers, Carlee Baker, and Shyla Molhusen will be IN PERSON at the screening!
Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, actor Keir Dullea has had to cancel. Keir is involved in a stage production that was supposed to wrap before TFW. However, due to its success it has been held over, thus preventing his appearance at this year's Texas Frightmare Weekend.
The Texas Frightmare Film Festival and Texas Frightmare Weekend will run April 29–May 1, 2011. Passes and tickets are currently on sale online at the Texas Frightmare website.
