Matt Reeves Confirms: Cloverfield 2 WILL Happen

Ever since the success of Cloverfield fans have been hoping and praying for a sequel. Thus far we've seen fan-made viral videos, hoped that Super 8 was actually the return of the beast, and have heard tons of chatter but nothing concrete. Will we ever see Clovie again? The answer is YES.

In an interview with Total Film Matt Reeves has gone on the record and dropped the following on fans:

"Well, you are going to see it - we just don't know when," laughs Reeves, offering the first official confirmation. "At the moment we are talking about the story quite a lot. Drew Goddard, who wrote the original, is going to pen the sequel, and J.J. Abrams is very much involved. However, the three of us have been so busy that getting the right idea together has been taking a long time."

Will the sequel again be shot cinéma-vérité style? "You see, that's a difficult part: We want it to be shot like the first, but how can you continue that idea successfully for a second time? We have a lot of affection for the original, and the sequel can't just be the same thing. But that is tricky when you need to have a monster destroying stuff once again."

Look for more (hopefully) soon!

One idea I’d be down with is if they used the cinema-vérité is for establishing backstory. Film the majority of the movie normally, but use news footage, security cameras, other peoples’ video tapes as exposition. I feel that would be a good link from 1 to 2, handing off from one style to another.

I'm all for a sequel if it isn't cinéma-vérité. Granted it worked in the first movie (and it almost never works) but I enjoyed the film in spite of the style not because of it. In truth it's only because the blu ray surround mix is so damn great that I could handle the crippled visuals.

Yes to giant rampaging monsters. No to crappy shaky cam visuals.
