Film Adaptation of Anne Rice's The Tale of the Body Thief No Longer in the WorksThis past Sunday author Anne Rice appeared on “The Dinner Party Show,” a live Internet show hosted by her son, Christopher, and Eric Shaw Quinn, and relayed some sad news to her fans anticipating the previously announced film adaptation of The Tale of the Body Thief.

We first heard in February of 2012 that Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment had optioned the rights to Rice’s The Tale of the Body Thief and had big plans for it. Well, fast-forward to yesterday, when Rice posted the following on her Facebook page: “No Lestat movie in the works — after all these years, and the best efforts of all involved… We’ve encountered difficulties we cannot at this time overcome.”

Below you’ll find a couple of videos from Rice’s appearance on “The Dinner Party Show,” in which she explains a little more, including the fact that Christopher wrote a script everyone who’s read it has loved; they just aren’t willing to move forward with it.

Hopefully things will change down the road, and if they do, you can be sure to hear about it here!

Book Synopsis:
Vampire-hero, rock star, and seducer of millions, Lestat is an immortal extraordinaire…

But Lestat yearns to be reborn a mortal. Tormented to the depths of his vampire soul, he wanders aimlessly across the globe from Amsterdam to the Amazon jungle until he meets the one being who can grant him his wish. He is the Body Thief, more sinister and evil than any daemon. But when Lestat surrenders his vampire body, he discovers what he’d so long ago forgotten: the awkwardness and anguish of being human…
