UPDATE - SXSW 2011: Could a Sequel to Deadgirl Ever Come Crawling Out of the Grave?

If you missed Trent Haaga's Deadgirl at festivals or on DVD, do yourself a favor ... Rectify that situation immediately. The film is nothing short of riveting and features an absolutely fearless performance from star Jenny Spain. Like all good movies, talk of a sequel has begun to rumble ...

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog Haaga has written a screenplay for a sequel in response to the backlash from women who found the original film misogynistic.

For the sequel it will be girls who find a naked "dead" guy. Presumably, they make different choices than the guys did in the same situation, but here's one instance where a sequel could actually help further define and illuminate the issues raised in the first film.

Look for more on this one we hope very soon.

According to Bloody Disgusting the above report is a bit off in terms of the plot. Deadgirl 2 would actually follow a group of females who find the same "zombie" girl from the first film. More Jenny Spain? We're TOTALLY in!

I forgot about this movie. I went over to my Netflix queue to add it, and, good news for anyone with Netflix that hasn't seen it. This movie is currently available to "Watch Instantly". I'll be watching this later today!! Thanks for the heads up DC!!

I'm not gonna kill you. Your job will be to tell the rest of them that death is coming for them, tonight. Tell them Eric Draven sends his regards.

The original was surprisingly good; an ambitious film that mostly worked.

Anyone who called the film misogynistic is obviously a politically correct cunt biscuit who'd like to censor anything they find mildly disturbing.
