More Dario Argento Announced on Blu-ray in 2011

2011 is shaping up to be a great year for Dario Argento fans. Not only are we keeping our fingers crossed that Dario will recapture some of his old magic in his upcoming Dracula 3D, but Blue Underground is bringing the maestro's most classic works to Blu-ray in stunning 1080p splendor.

Fangoria tells us that Blue Underground will bring Argento's 1971 giallo Cat O' Nine Tails to Blu-ray this year alongside the previously announced Deep Red and Inferno. Cat will hit stores later than those others, though, releasing on May 31st.

Fans can look forward to a 1080p HD, 2.35:1 widescreen transfer from the original uncut camera negative, along with DTS-HD 2.0, Dolby Surround 2.0 and DTS-HD mono soundtracks. Extras will be the same as the original Anchor Bay DVD release and the subsequent Blue Underground standard definition re-release:

- “Tales of the Cat”: Interviews with Argento, co-writer Dardano Sacchetti and composer Ennio Morricone

- Radio interviews with Franciscus and Malden

- Theatrical trailers

- TV and radio spots

For me, this is the by far the most exciting aspect of Blu-ray and I applaud companies like Blue Underground for providing a steady stream of fantastic catalog titles. In nearly every example, these Blu-rays have been a worthy upgrade over their DVD counterparts (and those of you who worry that the films will look "too clean" - worry not, grain structure remains wonderfully intact). My fiancee might hate me for it, but I'll keep buying these damn things provided the quality remains so high.
