Mortal Kombat Web Series on the Way

Remember that really awesome fan film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth from a few months back? There's no denying it was more interesting than both the MK movies put together (I'm still pretending the second flick didn't happen. In fact, what second flick?), and if you were a fan of it, brother, do we have some good news for you!

According to Bloody Disgusting director Kevin Tancharoen - who directed the awesome online short - will return behind the camera for a 10-episode web series dedicated to the popular video game.

Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, star Michael Jai White leads the cast as "Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs". Shooting will take place in Vancouver this coming February. Contestants expected to be cast are: Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durac (brother of Goro), Kabal, Kitana, Mileena, and of course Scorpion. As always the plot revolves around Earth's mightiest warriors fighting to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung - the two menaces who rule over Outworld.

No release date has been set. Stay tuned. In the interim dig on the original short again!

I enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie. It captured the cheesy vibe of the games pretty well. Also, the theme is beyond catchy.
