Ron Howard Talks About His Journey to the Dark Tower

For some reason I can't bring myself to finish the last three books in Stephen King's Dark Tower saga. It's not that I don't want to know how things work out for old Roland of Gilead, I just can't seem to muster the enthusiasm to continue on the journey. Perhaps now that things are steadily moving forward on the Dark Tower adaptation, I'll pick up the pace and finish the books.

Ron Howard Talks About His Journey to the Dark TowerToday Deadline reports that Howard is ramping up to direct not only the first film in Universal's planned trilogy but also the network television series that will bridge the first and second movie.

"It's dense, a great author's life work is not to be taken lightly. It has been utterly fascinating to explore it, and we are having great creative conversations. I've begun tossing and turning at 3 in the morning over it, so that's a good sign," Howard told the site.

No word yet on who will direct the second and third theatrical features, but we'll be keeping a close eye on this story.

Universal has set a May 17th, 2013 release date for the first feature, which will be written by Akiva Goldsman and produced by Brian Grazer.

NEXT STORY

You should finish it. Wolves of the Calla and The Dark Tower are both excellent. Song of Susanna is quite a chore, but it's mercifully short.
