The Walking Dead Consumes America

Talk about going out with a bang! AMC's "The Walking Dead" delivered a head shot across all fifty states in terms of ratings for its finale, and it's safe to say that horror is very much the flavor of the day for TV execs!

Variety reports that a record-setting season finale of "The Walking Dead" lifted the AMC series to the biggest average seasonal audience in the 18-49 demo of any drama in basic cable history.

Sunday's final episode of the first season drew more than 6 million total viewers and 4 million in 18-49, boosting the series' 18-49 average over its six-episode run to 3.5 million. According to Nielsen, that's the best average of any basic cable drama going back to 1993.

Repeat airings of the finale at 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. boosted the episode's total audience to 8.1 million.

Can you say hell yes?

I just finished watching last nights episode. Great season, cool finale. Glad I stuck with this....will look forward to next year.

Now,I never read the comics/graphic novels (whichever it is). So,this is all new to me. With that said,I'd be willing to bet that what the dearly departed doc whispered in Grimes ear is that the test results came back that his wife is pregnant. And to go one step further,if there ever IS a way to find out the kids father in the future,it's not his,it's deputy dogs.

This is a unique moment in TV history. Decades of dumb-as-dog sitcoms and (lately) reality shows so banal they openly insult the intelligence of modern viewers.

And now something smart is actually popular. Mark this day on your calendar because it sure as hell doesn't happen often.

A quality show gets quality ratings. Suck it.
