UPDATED: Uncle Creepy's Blu Christmas Buyer's Guide 2010

It's the last weekend before Christmas, but don't panic if you're still a few gifts short. As always I'm here to help you spread as much high-definition holiday fear as possible! Wondering what's worth the cash to get for the lucky horror-loving folks on your lists? Wonder no more!

There's no doubt Blu-ray players will once again be a pretty hot item this year, but what of the movies available for them? If you already own the DVD of your favorite flick, is there a need to replace it with a Blu-ray? I'm here to answer all of your questions in the third annual ...

Uncle Creepy's Blu Christmas Buyers Guide 2010!

Before we get into my picks (most of which are also available in new DVD versions; see review for information), let's take a second to explain once again how I rated them. They're broken down into three categories:

Can't Miss -- Must Haves: These are the cream of the crop! The purchases that are guaranteed to bring a smile to someone's face. Items no one with the tech should be without.

Good Buys: A rock-solid purchase. Sure, there's nothing really to die for about these Blu-rays, but be confident in the fact that you're spending your cash on the goods that you're hoping for.

Serious Hi-Def Junkies Only: Here's where things get a bit sketchy. These Blu-rays were included for a few reasons -- Either the movies suck, the transfer and sound aren't up to snuff, or the included supplemental material (or lack thereof) don't do much to keep these ships afloat.

Click on any of the reviews listed below to find out exactly what you're getting and to find the link with which to order them. I've also included at the very end a few other recommendations that either came in too late to be reviewed or are not quite horror films but we love 'em anyway.

Please Note: This article will continue to be updated throughout the holidays as more stuff comes out so check back often!

Let the games begin!

I wanted to like Scott Pilgrim. It was helmed by one of the top 3 directors working in movies today. Technically it was brilliant. I can even say it was original.

Sadly, I can't say I liked it. The hipster characters are vile and tiresome and I truly hated every single one of them. Also, enough Michael Cera. Is there any actor working today with less range than this twat?

In other words: If you like (or can tolerate) a movie about pretentious butt plugs, this is in every other respect brilliant.

Great list. I expected commentary or funny one-liners but the recommendation for Jonah Hex and NOES 2010 is making me laugh already. But seriously folks, I have to get Inception and Scott Pilgrim. Two truly fantastic films.

Ummm ... Terminal? If you'd actually bother to read the article (you know, something you claim to do so that you may complain about us every time you get the chance) regarding why each Blu-ray was selected in its respective category you'd see they weren't recommendations at all. The buyers guide acts as as full a list as possible of all the year's Blu-ray releases, so yes everything is included.

You know Creepy, you don't have to be persnickety about it. I was merely offering up a funny comment and you had to kill my buzz. I thought the majority of DC staffers were pot smokers? You're very square for a pot smoker, man. Tres square.

I have a right mind not to send you a Christmas card this year.

Nope ... you got the wrong member of the family there, Terminal. ;) Our uncle may be creepy, but a smoker he is not.

While I fully support the indulgence of urb, I haven't partaken regularly in years. Hell, I barely even drink anymore, but when I do - two fisted!

Can you stop being so self-centered? I'm trying to focus on your sweet Blu-ray guide thingy, not your blatant denial about your drug habits! Gawd!
