Roland Emmerich Won't Be Entering The Zone After All

Roland Emmerich is no stranger to gigantic spectacles of destruction, sure, but cancelled projects? That is something else entirely. Word has broken that his recently announced sci-fi project, The Zone is shutting down production just one week before filming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, Roland Emmerich's people released the following statement: "This is not a project (Emmerich) is pursuing at this time." No additional information was made available although speculation is that the 'found footage' gimmick is growing really old. Couple that with the fact that The Zone would've opened shortly after that other cinema verite flick, Super 8 and the puzzle just might start coming together.

No word on what Emmerich has settled on as a replacement project but, considering the man's devotion to the genre, I'm sure it'll be something delightfully silly.

Stay tuned!

He's probably worried that there isn't any way to top flying away from the apocalypse 3 times...

He's reached his peak with 2012 anyways...the runaway feel-good comedy of 2009

Good news any time this guy's material gets shot down.

I am beyond sick of 'found footage' movies which are made simply because they can be done on the cheap and little directorial skill is required.

This is a trend like 'reality tv' that should die and go away, but is so cheap and easy it won't.
