Rob Zombie to Usher in The Lords of Salem

After a week of heavy speculation, the proverbial cat is now out of the bag concerning just what Rob Zombie's next film will be. Curious? You know you are!
According to Deadline New York Rob Zombie has committed to make The Lords of Salem his next directorial outing. The film has been put together by Haunted Films, the company run by the Paranormal Activity team of Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli.
The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year-old coven of witches. Zombie will write the script while on his upcoming concert tour circuit and will shoot next year.
“What excited me most was Jason saying [I] can have total control over the script, casting and final cut,” Zombie tells Deadline. “I said I’m in.” Hit up the above linkage for more, and dig on some way early teaser art below.

um...Matt Fini "I like his non-remake work and I'll give this a shot, too"...so does that mean you actually liked "Haunted World of El SuperBeasto" because everytime i think about that movie i want to punch myself in the nuts to make sure I stop thinking about it.

Oh no ... I forgot about that one. I wasn't a fan.
I was just thinking of House and Rejects when I wrote that. I stand by both of those films, although Lords of Salem had better be a depatrue for Zombie (ie no white trash in Salem).

While I also hope he forgoes the white trash angle, there is a part of me that wants to see a bunch of Harvard and MIT grads swearing endlessly while dressed like Larry the Cable Guy.
Granted, I'm also the guy looking forward to that new Howling movie so make of that what you will.

Will they be trailer trash witches led by Sheri Moon who look like they haven't taken a bath in weeks and use the word fuck in every other word? And will the film have a grainy aged quality, have a bunch of horror references, and a classic rock soundtrack? Can't wait.

If you're going to do films based in Massachusetts, please do the creepy ass locale justice. Modern day Salem really isn't that scary though.

I'd say Zombie's biggest issue is his writing. As a director, I'll be the first to acknowledge that he's put together scenes of visceral horror that are nothing short of breathtaking in his films. Even the much maligned Halloween II had quite few singular moments that really worked (the Rabbit in Red slaughter was a brilliant sequence).
But his writing frequently shifts from solid (Otis in The Devil's Rejects: "Boy, the next words that come out of your mouth had better be some brilliant Mark Twain shit because they are definitely getting chiseled on your tombstone") to the resolutely awful (injured paramedic in Halloween II : "fuck..fuck..fuck..help me..fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck"..and so on).
With the appropriate writer, Zombie could make something that would finally deliver on the promise he's shown over the years ,particularly with The Devils' Rejects.
