Is Summit Keeping the Twilight Franchise Going with Bree Tanner Spin-Off?
Anyone's who's surprised by this news hasn't been paying attention. The Twilight Saga is winding down with only its two Breaking Dawn installments left. Did you think Summit would let it go just like that? Of course not -- if you believe the Internet rumor that Stephenie Meyer’s book The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner - released in March - is headed to the big screen.
What's Playing says they were told in an email from a tipster who works in licensing, “It goes without saying Summit want to continue this franchise… Tanner is the one they’re looking at post-Breaking Dawn. It’s too early to talk casting, and everything we’re hearing is just speculation or off a wish list, but I don’t believe they plan on using the original actress, Jodelle Ferland, for the spin-off film. It’s all about numbers and names - you guys know that.”
The names that match the numbers? “Chloe Moretz. Elle Fanning.”
Who's this Bree Tanner anyway? A minor character that popped up ever-so-briefly in this year’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - the newborn who surrenders to Carlisle and is killed by Jane at the end of the book. According to author Stephenie Meyer's website:
I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago — before Twilight [the film] was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree's perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.
