San Diego Comic-Con 2010: Piranha Footage Report - Bloody Insanity!
We've all heard the stories by now regarding the footage from Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D that was yanked from the big dance known as San Diego Comic-Con because it was too graphic. Well, that didn't stop the footage from being shown elsewhere, and we got the details.
Andrew Kasch reports in:
"We got to screening, and Jerry O'Connell handed us our 3D glasses. We were quickly informed that the movie was shot for 3D and not an added afterthought a la Clash of the Titans. The good news? It looked gorgeous.
Simply put, the footage is bloody insane. We saw an eight-minute montage of piranhas attacking hundreds of people at a spring break boat event. There was stuff splatting everywhere. Lots of naked teenagers' body parts and gore thrown every which way. The people in attendance went nuts. There's even a scene in which Eli Roth's head got smashed in by a boat in the chaos. Easily one of the most mass bloody set-pieces since Dead Alive.
Aja informed the audience that he planned to have Joe Dante and James Cameron play boat captains who give safety lessons to the teens. Dante wanted to do it, but Cameron obviously was too busy. That would have been great."
Okay, then. We want. Now. Look for Piranha 3D in theatres on August 20th.

A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.

I'm not 100% onboard with the notion that Joe Manganiello's werewolf character Alcide Herveaux is the hottest new addition to the third season of HBO's "True Blood" (for me that honor goes to Franklin), but apparently I'm in the minority as the powers-that-be have decided to make Alcide a regular come Season 4.
