Dread Central was on hand for the Frankenweenie junket held at Disneyland, where we had a chance to speak with many of the voices behind the delightful flick as well as the man himself who first envisioned this tale of a boy and his dog almost 30 years ago now- Tim Burton.

During the press day Burton, as well as Beetlejuice alumnae Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, reflected on the 1988 quirky comedy and briefly discussed their thoughts on the potential for a sequel to the original film which seemed to catapult all of their respective careers to new levels.

Check out some of the highlights from Burton, Ryder and O’Hara talking all things Beetlejuice below, and look for our full Frankenweenie coverage coming next week!

Winona Ryder on meeting Tim Burton for the first time: “This guy came in and started talking about movies and music, and then 25 minutes later I was like, ‘Hey, do you know when is this Tim Burton guy coming?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, that’s me!’ I couldn’t believe it. I had no idea that a director could actually be so cool and someone that I could easily hang out with . Our relationship, in a very strange way, it’s still the same- that love is still there; it’s still the same Tim Burton from that wonderful day.”

Catherine O’Hara on reuniting with her on-screen daughter after almost 25 years: “Winona is just so beautiful. Oh my lord, she still looks the same as she did at 13, 14 when we were making Beetlejuice- she even still has the same sweet little baby face. We actually never saw each other until this weekend so this is our first reunion in a long time (laughs).”

Tim Burton on reuniting with Ryder: “Winona hasn’t really changed much at all since we met, which is great. I love working with her, and I haven’t worked with her for many years, but since Frankenweenie was a project that means a lot to me, it was nice to have somebody like her who I love be a part of this.”

Ryder’s brief thoughts on a Beetlejuice sequel: “I’ve heard it’s being written, but that’s all I know. So yeah…I guess it would be great if it happens.

Burton weighs in on Beetlejuice 2: “Right now the writer is writing something, and I have no idea when it’s coming; I have no expectations. I didn’t give him too much direction because I want to try to not have a lot of preconceived ideas about it. Sometimes you want to be surprised. But I love the character, and if it’s a good script, then great. But there’s no point really for me thinking about it until I see it.”
