UPDATED: RIP: Corey Haim
Corey Haim's career was vastly overshadowed by his personal life over the last few years, but even with that in mind, today's bit of devastating news doesn't come any easier. At 38 years old Corey Haim has died.
According to USA Today Haim passed away early this morning at his Oakwood apartment in Burbank, CA. He was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center.
UPDATE (3/11/10): From ABC: According to early autopsy results, Haim died of pulmonary congestion. His mother, Judy Haim, told "Access Hollywood" that the Los Angeles County coroner's office revealed her son's cause of death to her today and also said he had an enlarged heart and his lungs were filled with water.
At just thirty-eight years, this is a tragic loss. Haim's genre contributions were both numerous and memorable. Whether he was battling a vicious werewolf (Silver Bullet) or government mutations (Watchers), the actor always brought plenty of charm and likability to the characters he played. Of course, we'll never forget him as Sam in the 1987 classic The Lost Boys - a role he might've reprised in greater capacity in a future sequel.
We at Dread Central extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Mr. Haim's friends and family as we remember him for the memorable body of work he leaves behind. Rest easy, brother. We'll miss you.

On the other hand: Wow, he made some epically stupid choices. I can't extend sympathy to someone who chose to kill themselves with drugs when there are so many people out there who have hardships they didn't create for themselves.
Ever since the talk show era began people are proud to display their dysfunction and wallow in it.

It's sad to see someone struggle so with addiction. Corey left a great legacy, though, and will never be forgotten by his fans.

"The Lost Boys" remains one of my favorite vampire movies of all time, and he was great in "Silver Bullet," a movie I consider a brilliant werewolf/whodunnit horror film. It's sad that his end couldn't have been more dignified and natural. Many saw this coming though. He will be sorely missed.
