Straw Dogs Remake Delayed

Is anyone really looking forward to the remake of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 masterpiece Straw Dogs? Anyone? Well, if you are amongst those who are super excited at seeing another perfectly good film put through the Hollywood ringer, we have some bad news for you.

Sony Screen Gems announced today that their reimagining of Straw Dogs has been bumped six months from its original release date and will now hit theatres on September 16th, 2011. Plenty of time for us to brace ourselves, cringe, and hope for the best.

In this new version directed by Rod Lurie, Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (James Marsden) moves with his wife (Kate Bosworth) to her hometown in the Deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation. Also starring will be Dominic Purcell and James Woods.

May Peckinpah haunt the set in a drunken, belligerent rage. Marsden couldn't hold down a Hollywood version of a "Twilight Zone" episode. This stands no chance of being good.

Listen, I hate large portions of the south for various reasons but...they're really doing a Hollywood vs. Angry Southern Stereotype movie? Is Seth McFarlane writing this?

I think Magneto said it best:

Why do you ask questions you already know the answer to?

Pretty typical remake. Taking away what made the original so great and altering it. Marsden is too pretty boy to be taken seriously as this character.

The appeal of Hoffman's character was that he was extremely geeky and meek and grew to become this vicious dominant male because he was pushed in to a corner.

And I really doubt they're going to include that rape/sex scene.
