So what was shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Com for Total Recall? Read on for all the details and maybe some talk of a three-boobed hooker or two. Or just be an info miser and go in to theatres blind.

Via Evan Dickson
Next up Len Wiseman took the stage to introduce Total Recall. Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston accompanied him shortly thereafter, and they pretty much immediately launched into an extended six-minute trailer for the film.

Now, I’ve been extremely hard on the early trailers for the film. I think it looks like a completely neutered version of the original, with all of the satire and edgy violence removed. The footage I saw was actually something of an improvement. I was a little impressed with the scope of what Wiseman is trying to pull off and admired some shots and some of the action. That’s really what this chunk of footage featured more than the existing trailers. Action. I actually caught myself thinking that I might even like this movie on some level, and I might like it a lot more if it didn’t have the Total Recall title and story. There was some cool stuff that looked like it could have been thrilling in a different setting. But for every new beat, there was a callback to the original. The three-breasted woman is there – though I’m not sure where she got the extra breast from if there are no Mars mutants in the movie. It also looks like, due to the PG13 rating, she will only be seen from the cleavage up. There’s also a callback to the “3 days” customs bit from the original, but it only served to remind me that this was a remake and diminished whatever enthusiasm I had for the footage,

All in all – Total Recall looks like it could be a slick and entertaining ride. But it also looks like something of an empty cash grab. Devoid of anything new to say.

The Total Recall remake will be landing in theatres on August 3rd, 2012.

Synopsis
Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) whom he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston) – there is no one Quaid can trust, except possibly a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) working for the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy). The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
