A Trifecta of Jeffery Lando Films to Choose From
Foy first told us about Jeffery Lando's House of Bones, in which the lovely Charisma Carpenter plays a ghost hunter, back in December of 2008, and finally this weekend it debuts on Syfy. In addition, the indie filmmaker who hails from Vancouver has two other Canadian premieres happening within the next few days.
But first here's what Lando has to say about House of Bones:
"[It's] a fun horror film where the cast and crew of a Ghost Hunter reality show get trapped in a house that really IS haunted. This is the movie I directed in Louisiana a year ago with a gang of wildmen genre filmmakers from LA. It begins airing this Saturday (the 16th) at 9 PM (8 Central)." Here's a sneak peek courtesy of Syfy:
Next, screenwriter Kevin Mosley set up a benefit screening of Lando's feature debut, Savage Island (starring Don S. Davis, Winston Rekert, Brendan Beiser, Kristina Copeland), for this coming Tuesday, January 19th, at the Pacific Cinematheque in Vancouver, BC. Showtime is at 7 PM, followed by a Q&A with Mosley and Lando. There's an after party at Unwined, 1180 Howe Street.
Here's a brief synopsis: When Peter Young blindly runs over Jimmy Savage on the lone dirt road of a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest, an already tense relationship between the real estate developer's family and the "squatter's" family explodes into violence.
Lando reflects, "Savage Island is the movie that got my directorial career going. It took 2 years to make, shot in dv and cut on an iMac back in 2000-2002. Made for 30K, it was rejected from major festivals but went on to sweep the top awards from a string of genre festivals in 2003. For some reason I cannot fathom, the movie isn't available in Canada. SO if you're in Vancouver, set aside the date -- there's no telling when you'll get another chance to catch it."
Lastly, if have access to the Canadian Pay TV SUPERCHANNEL, you can check out Lando's Thirst with Lacey Chabert (Party of 5, Mean Girls) and Tygh Runyan (Snakes on a Plane, Emile). Per Lando, "It's a harrowing survival film that tracks the fate of two couples who get stranded together deep in the Mojave. It also turned out to be a harrowing but thrilling shoot in Ashcroft in August with a cutting edge camera system (the SI-mini). I was given the opportunity to be a complete filmmaker (produce, direct, shoot, edit, color, vfx) on this one. Thirst begins playing Thursday, January 21st at 8PM and is rumoured to have a US DVD release date sometime this summer, so don't fret, you non-Canadians, Netfilx will stream it to you soon."
And if all that's not enough Lando for you, his latest feature, Goblin starring Camille Sullivan and Donnelly Rhodes, hits Syfy in May!
