Another Spin on the Piranha 3D Delay
Word came down earlier this week that the struggling Weinsteins had decided to push back the release of Alexandre Aja's 3D remake of Piranha from April to at least August, primarily in order not to complete with Lionsgate's Kick-Ass since both would likely appeal to the same audience. But it turns out there's more to the story after all.
Shock Till You Drop heard from director Aja and producer Mark Canton, who explained, "Our PIRANHA are still breeding!!! After the revolution of Avatar, I want to give the necessary time possible to perfect and heighten both our visual effects and our 3-D. The Final Destination 3D's huge opening weekend the previous year is a good indication that August will be prime feeding month! We are working on crafting every tooth, every scar and every fin with the utmost dread to give you the greatest punch of the summer yet in 3D!"
If a little more cross-mogination of all the ingredients is required to provide the kind of mayhem we are expecting from Aja and his crew, then August it is! We can wait while you guys get it right.

Daybreakers hit theaters last weekend, and Dread Central was there to take in the newest vampire tale and sit down with the film's creators. Among the pointy-toothed set was Willem Dafoe, who chatted with us a bit about life, undeath, and the pursuit of a world we'd actually survive in.
