Platinum Dunes' Friday the 13th Part II Up in the Air
For some reason, the Internet community bought into the unsubstantiated rumor that Platinum Dunes is pushing ahead with its Friday the 13th sequel for a target release date of August 13, 2010, despite refutes from PD frontman Brad Fuller. Today we’ve got more evidence that it’s not to be expected this summer, and that’s probably a good thing.
Box Office Mojo has stamped the upcoming sequel with a vague "TBD" date, meaning we don’t have any idea when to expect it.
It’s a good sign, however. If the powers-that-be at Platinum Dunes really want to avoid another 80% drop in business, they're going to have to come up with something a little better than what they served us the last time. Rushing through production isn’t the way to do that. My hope is that they’ve taken the criticism to heart and their approach will fall in line with some of the classic Paramount-era Fridays. I think they’re capable of a decent Jason flick; they just didn’t make it the first time.
Oh, and please don’t shoot in Texas again.

Hot off the box office disappointment of Saw VI, Lionsgate is surely eager to cash in on the fast-sinking ship that is the Saw franchise. So eager, in fact, that they’ve announced a release date for their 3D sequel.

We need a friday the 13th movie where girls gone wild is filming at crystal lake so jason can go apeshit slashing horny teens to bits.

The Friday the 13th remake was abysmal; it wasn't even so bad you can laugh at it. It's so bad it actually softened my hatred for Freddy vs. Jason a little bit. Nothing wrong with more Jason films, but at least make them entertaining, not boring.

I won't repost the lengthy comment I posted on STYD (basically get different writers & I wanna see if Fuller really listened to fans' complaints about the first one).
I will say, in addition, that I wish Brad Fuller and Andrew Form would spend less time posing for stills and doing numerous interviews and more time trying to make something more than a haphazard cash cow out of these remakes.
I'm all for updating these movies. I dig refreshing the lore for a new generation who may be put off by how dated the originals can seem to those who didn't grow up with them. Especially if the quality of the series has been diminished by countless lackluster sequels.
Just do it with some heart. Don't allow us lifelong fans to be able to accuse you of remaking a movie just to hang the title on a marquee because you know, despite the quality, you'll make a profit on the name alone.
That being said, bring on Part 2. Bring back Derrick Mears. Just, please, do it right.

Why no Texas? The atmosphere in Friday '09 was really nice.
