Google Celebrates 79 Years of Drive-Ins with a Scare

Part of our morning ritual around here is checking out just what the new header is on the Google home page and where it leads. That’s why today’s movie-themed doodle caught our eye, jump scare and all! Check it out!
When you head on over to the main Google page, you’ll find an animated image that upon being clicked leads directly to a listing for the opening of the first drive-in theater. Given the history of horror movies and drive-ins, we felt this was something that would be totally worth a look!
For the record … the first patent for the Drive-In Theater (United States Patent# 1,909,537) was issued on May 16, 1933. With an investment of $30,000, Richard Hollingshead, then a young sales manager at his dad’s Whiz Auto Products, opened the first drive-in on Tuesday, June 6, 1933, at a location on Crescent Boulevard in Camden, New Jersey. The price of admission was 25 cents for the car and 25 cents per person.
