Paranormal Activity Around the World

Paranormal Activity (click for larger image)With Paranormal Activity (review here) dethroning the Saw franchise as the Halloween juggernaut here in the States, the rest of the world is about to get a chances to dig on the phenomenon that this film has become for themselves.

Variety reports that on Halloween night Paranormal will begin showing in the U.K. with midnight screenings to help build buzz, much like Paramount did during the first October frame in the States. Icon is planning to go wide in Britain in mid-November.

Warners will open it the following weekend in Russia; next, Svensk takes the pic into Scandinavia on Nov. 13, Wild Bunch into Germany on Nov. 19. Paranormal hits Spain (On Pictures), South Korea (Korea Screen), and Latin America (Playarte) on Nov. 27, while the movie bows in Australia (Icon), France (Wild Bunch), and Italy (Filmauro) in the first December frame.

As usual, Japan will be the last major market to open, with Presidio launching the pic in April.

How will this affect sales of director Oren Peli's latest film Area 51, which is shooting now in Vegas (not Utah, check your facts, people) at next week's AFM? One can only expect a very positive outcome! Keep it here for more!

That is fantastic news! Way to keep the ball moving, Paramount, and not let the 'buzz' get diluted and releasing this great indy film abroad immediately!

If the studio heads at Paramount keep acting like this I might have to rethink my "all studios are lame" philosophy and become a bit less the corporate antagonist. Kudos to Oren Peli, Paramount and all involved in getting this gem to it's audience!

Not to dilute your enthusiasm for Paramount, who did indeed do a phenomenal job with its US marketing campaign, but Paranormal Activity's foreign distribution is being handled by other companies.

Thanks for the info. Like I said, "I might have to rethink...", MIGHT being the operative word.

Being a life-long fan of both the FRIDAY THE 13TH and STAR TREK franchises, I've had a love/hate relationship with that studio for a while. That's why I've been so impressed by their willingness to allow the audience to "Demand It", as opposed to making the decision to screw-the-pooch behind closed doors, like they always seem to.

Either way, it's nice that UK moviegoers will get the chance to see this flick in time for Hallowe'en. Although it might not be such a breath of fresh air across the pond, since they have their own brilliant film industry unhindered by the mongoloid known as the MPAA.
