Quote the Rambo, Nevermore
Movies based on stories by Edgar Allan Poe are nothing new. Movies about the short life of the macabre writer, however, are in shorter supply. One of Edgar Allan Poe's biggest fans is pushing to get a biopic about the famed writer into production. Because when you think Edgar Allan Poe, you think... Sylvester Stallone?
Empire Online caught up with Stallone to talk to him about his all-star action flick The Expendables opening next year, as well as the possible Death Wish remake he's considering starring in. One unexpected topic that came up was Stallone's passion to make a movie on the life and times of the writer of such classic horror tales and poems as "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Pit & the Pendulum", and "The Raven", just to name a few.
Stallone himself has no intention of saying "Yo, Poe!" Him starring would make no sense given Poe died at the young age of 39. Presumably Stallone would direct with a younger actor in the title role.
Stallone vows that the Poe biopic is going to happen. Convincing his Rambo/Expendables producer to finance the film is proving tricky. A quite amusing quote by Stallone from the Empire article explains why:
"I keep telling my producer Avi Lerner, 'Make Edgar Allan Poe!' He says, 'Does he have a gun?' 'No, he doesn't have a gun', 'Can he throw a knife?' I say, 'No, he writes poetry!'
FYI: Avi Lerner is also the producer of such modern classics as the Shark Attack movies, Mansquito, and Skeleton Man. When you read a quote like the one above, it all starts making sense.
