AFI Fest Announces Halloween Schedule

AFI FestYet more horror to see in the season! AFI FEST has announced its horror programming: a number of genre films scheduled to be shown on Halloween at the Mann Chinese 6 Theater in Hollywood, California.

The Hole, which will be shown in 3D, is a family friendly film by Joe Dante in which two brothers find a dark and mysterious hole in their basement which houses an ancient evil. Sean Byrne's The Loved Ones, which was the winner of the Midnight Madness Audience Award of this year's Toronto Film Festival, is an Australian thriller about a troubled high school student who is kidnapped by a crazed father and daughter and dragged to a bizarre "prom".

Also from Australia is Ted Kotcheff's Wake in Fright, a film originally released in 1971, which was nominated for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival and was long lost before being recently recovered and restored. Wake in Fright is described as a brutal thriller in which a young teacher traveling in the rough Outback of Australia suffers some bad encounters with the drunken and violent locals. Michael Stephenson's Best Worst Movie is also planned to be shown; this documentary takes a long look at the story behind the creation of Troll 2 as well as the film's cult status legacy.
