Silent Hill Scribe Roger Avary Sentenced to a Year in Prison

Speaking as someone who’s lost a loved one at the hands of a drunk driver, this is a tough story to sympathize with. Academy Award winning writer/director Roger Avary has been sentenced to a year in prison after a drunk driving incident claimed the life of a friend and left others with serious injuries.

E! reports that Ventura County Superior Court Judge Edward Bordie also gave Avary five years' probation and ordered him to enroll in a DUI education program. Bordie justified the relatively light punishment by stating that the 44-year-old filmmaker had shown remorse and had no criminal background.

After initially pleading innocent last December, Avary changed his mind and pleaded guilty August 18th to gross vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.

My guess is that Avary has a lot to atone for, and he’ll be dealing with this incident (which took the life of his friend, Andreas Zini) long after his sentence is up. Hopefully he’ll find a way to put those demons to rest.

NEXT STORY

He'll probably (remorsefully) write a script based on his experiences and (remorsefully) make millions from doing so, whilst those whose lives he irrevocably destroyed due to his drunken stupidity will struggle on, and maybe never recover... Yeah, that's real justice!

I know that if someone ever did anything like that to a member of my family, I'd want their fucking neck wrung and their blood drained from every ounce of their body!

But at least he confessed that he did wrong and is doing time for what he did, unlike John Landis who is respected and well liked by many on this and other horror sites and the accident he co-caused is much worse.

Hopefully Avery will try and find redemption (unlike Polanski and Landis) and if not well nuts to him.
