Screen Gems Makes a Date With a Beautiful Girl
Screen Gems has finally set a date for the Michael Cunningham (The Hours) written film Beautiful Girl. Just don't expect to be turned on by her anytime soon.
According to Box Office Mojo, March 11, 2011, is the date when audiences will be diggin' on this hopefully bloody tale concerning a shy but brainy high school girl who returns for senior year after having slimmed down six dress sizes. She finds herself flirting with the handsome English lit teacher, but the mutual crush turns deadly when the teacher's obsession with the student compels him to exact maniacal revenge on everyone who was cruel to her.
Cunningham has been quoted as saying of the project, "While I was writing about Virginia Wolff, my mind was never far removed from the idea of girls in bikinis being hacked up by guys wearing hockey masks, and I vowed that if I ever had a good idea, I would write one of these scary movies." That's just music to our ears.
Look for more soon.

You know it's a weird week for DVD releases when the cream of the crop includes a couple of Blu-ray reissues, Fifties throwback horror/sci-fi hybrid Alien Trespass (read Creepy's review here), and Bigfoot-inspired The Wild Man of the Navidad, which garnered one of the higher ratings Foy's doled out in quite some time (review here).
