Brood Next on the Remake Block
No. Don’t do this. Please. Leave Cronenberg’s work alone! Take me if you have to!
Daily Variety learned the horrific news this morning that Spyglass Entertainment have acquired the rights to remake David Cronenberg’s 1979 classic The Brood, probably one of the creepiest of the master’s early works. Priest screenwriter Cory Goodman is attached to pen the screenplay.
From what the trade says the story, about a woman who undergoes medical treatments to manifest her rage in a brood of demented, homicidal children, will remain intact. What it will lack, however, is David fucking Cronenberg so they should just set this down gently and back away, damnit.
Sorry. I guess some remakes do still piss me off. On the subject of remakes that don't, however; the trade also reports that the Scanners redux is still in the works with Darren Lynn Bousman attached to helm, though God only knows when he’ll find the time.
