DiCaprio on McFarlane's Wish List for New Spawn Film
I guess it’s not surprising to hear that Leonardo DiCaprio is Todd McFarlane’s number one choice for the lead in a Spawn reboot (there’s that damn word again). These days comic adaptations are the rage, and top-tier Hollywood talent has been all over the recent trend, often translating into box office gold.
What is surprising, however, is that McFarlane plans to center the new Spawn flick around a police detective, not the titular anti-hero. McFarlane talked to MTV about his aspirations for DiCaprio and a direction for the new film:
”The main character isn’t Spawn, per se, it’s the guy chasing Spawn," McFarlane told MTV News. “And I’ve always had DiCaprio in the back of my mind. It’s a big wish, but his dad was a big fan of underground comic books and he came from that. It’s not a big special-effects movie, it’s a character movie, so I could shoot it in 40-50 days and you don’t have to budget that much time."
We could certainly use a new Spawn film, and McFarlane’s proposed approach sounds drastically different than the bombastic CGI overkill of that 90s flick. Do you think Leo could acquaint himself with that universe, or is this just a pipe dream?

Viral marketing campaigns are nothing new, but HBO has really taken it to the next level with its promotion of "True Blood", which begins its second season this coming Sunday, June 14th.

Hmm... if they want Leo as a detective then I guess it wouldn't be centered around Sam and Twitch.

This movie doesn't interest me. I want to see Spawn not another detective movie. Fuck, I liked the first one.

It wouldn't be a pipe dream if they could talk him into doing the movie with little pay. But what are the odds of that happening?

Leo's been known to do things out of love for the subject rather than a paycheck, so it could happen.
