Wild Man of the Navidad DVD News

Yesterday we told you about MPI Media Group distributing IFC's DVD releases. Filmmaker Duane Graves has since sent me details about the August DVD release of his The Wild Man of the Navidad, "a Southern fried creature feature with a slasher movie twist." They really ought to put that line on the cover.

What's that? Oh, they did? Cool. I'm a quote whore!

I believe co-filmmaker Duane Graves told me I was the very first person to review The Wild Man of the Navidad (review here) so it's fitting that a quote from my positive review appears on the front of the box. There's a quote on the back cover attributed to Variety. That's right; Variety takes a backseat to me (by way of Dread Central). Damn straight.

The Wild Man of the Navidad is filmed in the style of a vintage, early 1970's era, drive-in horror movie - no surprise considering the producer is Kim Henkel, producer of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Wild Man purports to be based on the real-life journals of a man named Dale S. Rogers, recounting his supposed encounters with a terrifying hairy creature that haunted the woods of a small Texas town for years.

I've been told that the cut of the film being put out is slightly different and reportedly improves upon an area I had some issues with, namely the original ending that was so abrupt it bordered on anti-climactic. This cut is four minutes longer, mostly added to better flesh out the finale. Regardless, this one is a good chiller that's worth keeping an eye out for.

August 11th is the DVD date when you'll get to encounter the "unrated director's cut" of The Wild Man of the Navidad for yourself. Amongst the DVD extras:
