Alien Prequel CONFIRMED
Just a couple of days ago chatter started surfacing about a possible Alien prequel or remake and today ... confirmation has come.
Website Collider sat down with Tony Scott and he confirmed that Carl Rinsch is directing the Alien reboot for Fox, and the film will be a prequel.
Well, at the very least it's not a remake, right? Cameras are likely set to roll by the end of the year. How about instead of being snarky or exploding with venom we just sit here for a moment in stunned silence. That would be good. Yes. Silence. It's golden, ya know.

What is the world coming to...if this movie can and does pull it off it might be for the best but if they go in an start changing everything around then it will be a complete bomb like so many others that have come before it now.I think that it time for a moment of silence just to remember the good old days of this genra.

If you're talking about remakes and sequels can you remind me when the good old days of this genre were?

Could be something cool...
Ridley Scott has said many times that he would like to explore the Alien race and the Space Jokey, why the derelict ship crashed, the purpose of it, what are the Aliens, etc...
If they take that route it could be worth something.
If it's Aliens chasing people in tight corridors, then I'll skip it.
The mind is like a parachute...it only works when it is open.

This is wonderful news, and I am very excited that this famed series is being given a new lease of life. Thank God Tony Scott is involved, as we need someone to make sure this (hopefully) remake will have some pazazz! I am also hoping, no praying, that they will give the classic Alien design a modern twist, utlilising the very best in CGI and green screen motion capture to do this, rather than practical effects. I have every faith in the studio that their choice of a music video director will mean we do not have to endure labored shots or dialogue-driven scenes. What we need this film to do is to cut to the chase - get the Aliens on screen and killing their prey in the first 5 minutes. This is going to be great, and all you doubting Thomas' who think this film is going to suck, I HATE YOU!

My sarcasm detection meter's going through the roof!
Something cool could come from this. Once we start seeing the cast come together I think we'll know where it's going. I'm hopeful we'll see a cast of grown-ups, experienced character actors. But I'm guessing it's going to be a slew of interchangable pretty faces.

I cast ZAC EFRON as Space Jockey. It will be a musical unlike any other! But he'll survive though, 'cuz he's really cute.

So who's going to be playing the "new" Ripley? Ellen Page? Michelle Rodriguez? John Cena? ;D
Submitted by Rorschach on Sat, 05/30/2009 - 7:26pm.
It's a prequel, so it's probably going to be about Ellen Ripley's early years in Jr College. Damn straight, I can't wait.

I will go out and have a threeway to quell my blind rage.

A prequel? So it's going to be about the spaceship with the vaginal orifice and the big, dead space jockey?

TONY Scott? Oh, goddammit...

Let's face it, this is a remake. It's going to feature a group of people in a ship who find a pod and then get killed one by one. Unless they try to convince us of some bullshit how humans created the alien.

This is just a thought, but... if they're going to do a prequel, instead of doing a prequel to the original, maybe they should do a prequel to Aliens, which would show the gory details of what happened people in the colony.

Well at least we know that if it's a prequel and not a remake, they can't change the Alien designs...and now maybe we will find out what that "thing" was driving the ship.

I don't know a big time director would be needed to make this movie good. As much as I'm looking forward to The Hobbit I'd rather see Del Toro do this. Maybe Peter Jackson is sitting around with nothing to do. It really can't get any worse for the franchise but it'd be so awesome to get a really kickass movie out of this.

Prequel? It does have possibilities that may appease fans and cursory enthusiasts.

Damn, I missed that entirely. So this guy has directed 2 movies that I've never heard of and hasn't done anything in several years according to IMDB. It could get ugly.
Submitted by Floydian Trip on Fri, 05/29/2009 - 7:12pm.
I really wish Ridley Scott was directing this but this could turn out ok. There are way too many instances in which genre fans get up in arms for nothing. I don't think it will be any worse than Resurrection and AvP.

I'm hoping that maybe it'll be similar to The Thing prequel. That one hasn't seemed so bad based on early reports, and I definitely hold the Carpenter version in as high esteem as I do Alien, so maybe there's hope ...

Submitted by Minion on Fri, 05/29/2009 - 5:43pm.
No, no petitions. Because if a successful boycott happened (as if) and the prequel wasn't made, then a remake WOULD happen.
My cold sweats have finally broken. Think I'll go lie down now...
