Alien Vs. Remake: Whoever Wins, We Lose
20th Century Fox is reportedly looking to do a remake of Alien. In space, no one can hear you scream "Fuck this movie!"
I know a lot of readers out there have come to accept this remake trend but this is different. This is Alien. This is like announcing you're going to do a remake of Jaws or Casablanca or The Wizard of Oz or Citizen Kane. Alien is not a movie you're going to improve upon. Even the special effects hold up pretty well by today's CGI-centric standards. You are not going to make a better Alien. End of story.
This story comes courtesy of Bloody Disgusting and how I hope it gets proven to be false. I'll just copy and paste from their article here because my fingertips are currently filled with too much rage to reinterpret their story in my own words.
"Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen.
Who is Carl Rinsch? I'm being told he's a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake."
Bloody Disgusting has since updated their anonymous tipster story having gotten word from a reliable source that the plan is to do an "origins story", which I assume would mean to explain how the alien craft discovered in the original Alien ended up where it did and, presumably, explain where the Alien race came from. If so, that's not nearly as bile-inducing as a straight-up remake. It still screams "prequel" and the only thing I'm as sick of as remakes is prequels.
The good news is that we can all take this as a grain of salt until an official confirmation or denial comes about and I predict that will come swiftly. Let's hope sanity prevails.

If EA Games have taught gamers anything it's that "it's in the game." For horror fans said it is recognized as demons, creatures, blood, gore, and terror. So what does the house that Madden built have in store for genre lovers in the coming months? Let's take a look at a sampling of their E3 line-up!

I don't mind the prequel/origins craze so much -- except for the fact that it pretty much eliminates all possibility of suspense and surprise since the ending is a foregone conclusion.

As long as it's not a remake then I'm all for it. Usually I'm not the type to hate a remake simply because its a remake. But this is one of those movies you don't mess with.

I don't believe anything bloody-disgusting says because they don't even listen to there fans.

It still boggles the mind that FoX went with the AvP idea instead of a new Alien flick done by Scott/Cameron.
I want to nuke this remake (and many others) from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I hate how big studios never listen to fans, because not one wants Alien remade. Ugh.

Fuck it. They've already destroyed the franchise. I don't think it's possible to make a movie worse than Resurrection or AvP.

In the future, films will be remade every 15 minutes.

No one is stealing your baby. Relax. At the very worst it sucks. No big deal.

What the hell for? The original is timeless and looks amazing 30 years on...
Actually, I think this is the so-called Alien 5 flick, which has been on the cards for many years now. Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott have been talking recently on bringing back Ripley 'one more time', and as such this appears to be another Bond/Batman type reboot of yet another franchise.
