Another Manson Film On the Way?

Vincent BugliosiWe've heard from a couple of reliable sources that last week's rumored collaboration between Oliver Stone and Vincent Bugliosi for a big-screen reboot of Helter Skelter was just that -- a rumor. But apparently Bugliosi's involvement with Charlie Manson is far from over as he IS attached to the upcoming Taming the Beast as an Executive Creative Consultant.

Manson followers are probably familiar with the novel Taming the Beast: Charles Manson's Life Behind Bars, which was co-written by Edward George, who was Charles Manson's prison counselor for eight years during the late 1970's/early 1980's, and Dary Matera, an author and newspaper columnist who specializes in real-life casebooks. Producer Thurane Aung Khin adapted the screenplay from the book and dropped us a line with a link to the Taming the Beast MySpace page, according to which Jeremy Davies of "Lost" was at one time approached to portray Manson.

We'll have more on the project as things progress.

I can't handle true crime stuff either. My gf watches shows like Forensic Files and such about real murderers and rapists and it just disturbs me too much. I'll be skipping this although I did watch one fruity movie about Manson a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty horrible. I think it was an independant film.

Hey Messiahman, nice to see you again! *high five*
I Never was big on the true life killer movies, too depressing. Not familiar with the book, so it's hard to say if I'm interested yet.

Uhm, actually, Jeremy Davies DID play Manson in the 2004 network television remake of HELTER SKELTER (which is also readily available on DVD). He was quite good.

Which is probably why they're talking to him about this film as well -- although I could see him not wanting to repeat himself and/or risk typecasting. Like Railsback -- I can't look at him without thinking of Charlie.
