Keanu Reeves Heads to the Lab for Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde

Keanu Reeves Heads to the Lab for Dr. Jekyll & Mr. HydeTed “Theodore” Logan is no stranger to the horror genre. He’s starred in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Devil’s Advocate, and Constantine (among others).

Now, Keanu Reeves is about to test his ability to perform dual personalities because THR reported tonight he’s set to take on the title role(s) in Universal’s remake of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson story “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.”

Look, I know that Reeves gets a lot of grief for his wooden performances, but the guy can act when given something challenging to do. Don’t believe me? Go rewatch his performance as Donnie in The Gift and then tell me I am wrong.

I might be in the minority here, but I am kinda psyched to see him do something a little more challenging than his latest outing in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. I honestly don’t think it’s an accident that the guy has stayed busy for almost 25 years in the biz.

Justin Haythe (who penned the recent Oscar bait flick Revolutionary Road) wrote the script for Jekyll, and Nicolas Winding Refn, who is responsible for the Pusher film series (which is pretty good if you haven’t seen it), is in negotiations to direct.

I am a big Keanu fan, I agree when presented with challenging material he come through ie: The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly. Fingers crossed he pulls this off, however after James Nesbit's portrayal of the twisted Dr in BBC's mini series Jekyll, its big shoes to fill.

I kind of dig this casting as well. I think he can definitely pull off the repressed Jekyll. It's a role that can allow for a bit of stiffness in manner. Hopefully he can pull off Mr. Hyde, I haven't seen him do rage all that well yet. I'm cautiously optimistic.
