Indie Horror Month Video Interview: Master of Horror John Carpenter Reflects on the Early Days of His Career

After giving fans so many horror stories to fall in love with for over 30 years now, there’s not much that hasn’t already been said a million times regarding John Carpenter’s contributions to our beloved genre, which is why for Indie Horror Month we decided to let the man speak for himself.
Last month Dread Central headed over to Carpenter’s office for an exclusive video interview with the iconic filmmaker, and during our chat we heard from him on a multitude of topics ranging from his earliest film – Dark Star – to his latest directorial effort – The Ward – and pretty much everything else that has happened in between.
In Part One of our video interview, Carpenter talks about his experiences working on his early independent horror features including Dark Star, Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween and The Fog as well as more on his transition to the world of television movies when he helmed the Elvis TV mini-series which starred frequent Carpenter collaborator Kurt Russell.
And even though Carpenter’s horror/sci-fi classic The Thing was a studio project, we also chatted with the legendary director about that film in honor of the upcoming 30th anniversary of its theatrical release date.
