New Cronos and Mimic DVDs on the Way!
It was reported over at Twitch Film that fans of Guillermo del Toro’s earlier films will have something to relish in the very near future.
His debut film Cronos is being released later this year by Criterion, and Mimic will finally get the proper treatment that has been so lacking in the twelve years since it was released in theatres.
Del Toro has been working for some time now on creating his own Director’s Cut version of Mimic, and it looks like Dimension Films will be releasing that onto DVD shelves July 18th, 2009.
It’s no secret that the theatrical cut has been a long-running sore spot for the visionary director so it will be interesting to finally see what this cut looks like as well as have an opportunity to hear del Toro discuss all the Mimic-related woes in his audio commentary on this disc.
No official street date has been set for Cronos yet, but as soon as it is, we’ll pass the word along!

Okay, so I will be the first to admit that I am getting kind of tired of the endless remake films that seems to be plaguing Hollywood these days. However, I must say that I am a little more than intrigued by the Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures remake of the1981 legendary classic Clash of the Titans.

STYD is dead wrong. I saw them working on the Mimic DVD with my own two eyes.

Yeah, the Mimic DVD was being worked on for a while. Since then del Toro has said that the director's cut is now dead and Twitch Film admitted the story was an April Fool's day joke.

The Mimic DVD cover that's shown above was made by a fan. Hilarious.
At least Cronos is getting the proper respect from Criterion.

I was wondering if the report of Dimension releasing Mimic was in error since that movie is now owned by Disney. I guess the "12th Anniversary Edition" on the cover was also another hint. Anyway, that's a piss poor April Fool's day joke by Twitch Film. Del Toro has been working on that director's cut with Disney for a while but he just said it wasn't going to happen. This false glimmer of hope just pissed me off.
On the other hand, the Criterion Blu-ray of Cronos is just what the doctor ordered!
