Eve is Such a Tease!

And the similarities between Hack/Slash and Eve keep on rolling. Sort of like how we got Volcano and Dante's Peak, Armageddon and Deep Impact, anything that made money and any film from the Asylum.

UHM got ahold of the synopsis and some early teaser art for Eve directly from writer/director Brian Metcalf.

Eve "is set in an alternate, more seedy Los Angeles. After discovering her father was the deadliest serial killer of all time, Evelyn makes the decision to track down every psycho she can get her hands on. But these are no ordinary killers, they have supernatural advantages to them - something she must learn to adapt to. She also must learn as to why they are gathering in this city and what their evil intentions are while having to reconcile with her own past."

Those familiar with Hack/Slash will immediately notice the similarities story-wise as it focuses on a young woman named Cassie who discovers that her mom is a serial killer and must be destroyed. From there Cassie makes it her life's mission to hunt down psychos with supernatural abilities.

Wow. Just ... wow. In any event, dig on the really cool teaser art that features Elaine Hendrix (atop a familiar stack of bodies) as the title character below and look for more on Eve soon.

Brian just posted this on bloody disgusting. Turns out he doesn't like the similarities either:

I have just recently been made aware of these threads going on so I thought I would respond in person. I had never previously heard of Hack/Slash until now and from the looks of it, it is something right down my alley - nice art, story premise obviously. But I do realize the similarities. The bit with Eve's father and Cassie's mother is strikingly similar. Now, I never did steal from this comic as my idea came when I watched a horror marathon when I was young with Friday the 13th, Happy Birthday to Me and others at a friend's house. Due to that, I noticed one thing in common, that all the girl victims ended up killing the psychos. I wanted to take that premise a step further and see what happens after that fact. Then I came up with the idea of Eve cutting a smile in her hand due to her abusive father telling her to smile all the time. The original story goes that she discovers this, is almost killed but the police save her at the last moment. The rest I can assure is quite different than Hack/Slash due to now researching the comic. I did try to get this film made back in 1999 and executives told me that nobody would want to see a film like this. Now because of the striking similiarities and with respect to Mr. Seeley and his beautiful work, I would now like to go a different direction as I REFUSE to do something that someone else is doing, even if its bankable. It has actually hurt my career as I turned down films with premises about a killer going after a group of teens in the woods. I also ended up turning down other ideas that were somewhat similar. I love this genre dearly, am an avid horror fan, and want to give viewers something new and unique. And I definitely don't want another comparison like Deep Impact/Armageddon. I created Fading of the Cries as my solution to the zombie horror franchise because its about a hero that manages to use a sword to kill the undead with a superhero touch to it. It isn't about a bunch of survivors running from the undead where they get shot in the head. Even if I were in mid-production and made aware of this, I wouldn't let it get out. My congratulations to Mr. Seeley for putting out a comic that was published a number of years ago that I want to run and pick up. I would be upset to if the same happened to me. If I can't add some more originality to Eve, then I won't release it. - Brian

the poster looks awesome and sorry but i've never heard of Hack/Slash (sounds like somethin i definitely need to check out though). i have a hard time believing Eve is a rip-off. this all sounds like just a bunch of drama based on absolutely nothing especially considering Hack/Slash is not a household name or anything. I look forward to them both and wanna hear more about Eve. Let's see some more artwork and a more elaborate synopsis. I'm definitely gonna check it out

Are peopl gonna say that Rob Zombie's Tyranosarus Rex is a ripoff of The Wrestler? I never heard of hack n slash in my left but wrestler got an oscar nominmation. but I don't think it'll be anything like Rob Zombie's film.

Yeah, because the similarities between Hack/Slash and Eve are the same as the similarities between The Wrestler and Tyrannosaurus Rex.

What a ridiculous argument.

Ass.

This comparison is stupid. Hack is a comic I've never heard of before now. Dexter, I've heard of which is wait: about a guy that kills serial killers. Holy shit! They stole from Hack! But wait its a chick: the Resident Evil, Ultraviolet and Buffy people should then sue. They should be kissing ass to Ratio for all the press they're getting right now. They aren't in mainstream media and none of my friends have seemed to hear of it either.

Well to be fair, just because you or your friends haven't heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Hack/Slash has a fairly big fan base and the project has been around for a couple of years now. You should check it out, it's good stuff. And besides that I don't think Rogue Pictures is in need of any kind of publicity so there goes that point.

I'm not saying EVE is ripping anyone off or that it's going to be bad. It's far too early in the game to even suggest that, but the bottom line is that every so often we get two things that are almost the same. It's not a comparison. It's a fact. This is just one of those times.

This comparison reminds of Gobots vs. Transformers, Pearl Jam vs. Stone Temple Pilots. The same premise but Gobots came out first. Transformers was done better so that won. I have also thought it'd be cool to have someone turn the clocks against a serial killer. Doesn't mean I copied anyone. I doubt Friday the 13th creators were going after Sleepaway camp creators. Regardless, this poster looks so damn killer! Hot chick slicing up nutcases is really hot! On UHM, the art of the Eve carving a smiley face into her hand and holding it up is pure genius. Plus, the art was claimed to be created back in 1998, before Hack/Slash existed.

Okay this poster looks killer! I've read all the Hack/Slash Comics and I've gotta say, I really don't see too much similarity except the idea. But Hack/Slash has Cassie and Vlad, Eve is alone. And Cassie goes after weird killers like Undead rockers and vets that control animals in small towns. In Eve, it seems the killers are gathered in Los Angeles according to this premise. Cassie discovers her mom is a serial killer, and Eve, she discovers her father is the biggest serial killer. But its almost like saying I'm going to go see a film about a group of survivors running from zombies, or even more typical, a psycho killing a bunch of teens. I can count these premises in so many ways its pathetic. Screw it, I'll go see both. But like stated above, its only the H/S people who have delayed it so long who have themselves to blame. There's also some kick-ass concept art from Brian done back in 1998.

The people who have been steadily delaying the HACK/SLASH movie for years have only themselves to blame. Ultimately the joke's on us, though.
