The Remake That Time Forgot

Remember that 1975 dinosaur classic The Land That Time Forgot? No? That's a shame because it was a surprisingly good little movie. Even more surprising -- production starts next week on the remake with actor C. Thomas Howell in the director's chair! How in the world did we miss this one?

The folks over at MovieHole quietly let that cat out of the bag today. Howell will be pulling down double-duty and star in the film as well along with Christopher Showerman and Timothy Bottoms. Expect more casting announcements soon.

For a blast from the past check out the original trailer below and imagine the possibilities!

It's actually coming from 'The Asylum Ent.' to cash in off of "Land Of The Lost". I still look forward to another dinosaur flick.

The Land that Time Forgot and The People that Time Forgot always makes for a good home double-feature. You can tack on At the Earths Core to round out the evening. Amicus did right with these films and with Doug McClure, how can one resist. Apparently Michael Morcock wrote the screenplay to the original 1975 TLTTF.
If C.T. Howell neglects the films time period, drops zee Germans with thier U-boat, and uses cgi over dino-puppets this is going to be stale.

I've been going on for years and years about my love for these movies. Did anybody ever respond? Nope. Anyways, count me in for the remake and the hope they keep the time period. I've mixed feelings about CGI versus puppets. You know it will be CGI, there's no way it won't be. Maybe they will feature some small degree of puppetry. And don't forget the score, at least for Land. That was a kick ass score.

But you have to be real, the effects in this are really really bad. There's charm to the puppets but a lot of it is nostalgia for me, sneaking into the theater with my cousin for a triple feature. Same thing with Food of the Gods and Empire of the Ants. Movies like this are part of the reason I do my puppetry thing.

I'll hope for the best but expect the worse. Maybe low expectations will help in this case.
