Lionsgate Plays Hunger Games
Hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the tweener craze, Variety reports tonight that Lionsgate has secured the feature rights to Suzanne Collins' futuristic novel The Hunger Games.
The mini-major announced that Collins herself will adapt her novel, the first in a trilogy. The second installment, Catching Fire, is due out in September.
The Hunger Games, first published in the fall of 2008, takes place in a society in which districts pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl who are forced to fight to the death on live TV.
