Actual Circus Performers Appear in Cirque du Slay

Who doesn’t love the circus? The exotic animals, the aerial performers and the clowns…the goddamn clowns. New film company Faced Productions is currently filming a feature entitled Cirque du Slay, which is not only based in a circus atmosphere but is being filmed in classic Sarasota, Florida, circus locations with actual performers participating. It’s like a modern-day version of Freaks.

Sean Haitz and Chris Potter, creators of Mangrove Slasher 2, have started a production company they’ve named Faced Productions. Their new feature film, which has been in development since the Sarasota Film Festival, will be a horror-thriller featuring the circus–a subject very near and dear to Sarasota, Florida, where it all started with the Ringling Brothers.
Shooting will be held at real locations where circuses performed, such as the Ringling winter headquarters. (When the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus moved its winter quarters to Sarasota in 1927, the serene seaside resort became the hub of circus activity, attracting famous circus families and artists from around the world, and Sarasota quickly became known far and wide as Circus City, USA.)
The big circus acts featured in the film include fearless masters of the high wire and thrill acts starring Werner and Aura Guerrero, a unique act of two-, three-, four- or seven-man man human pyramids, and also a full trapeze act with Tito Gaono of Fantasy Flying Circus.
Synopsis
A group of mid-twenties friends are on a road trip to visit Mangrove County, the scene of the increasingly infamous Mangrove Slasher massacre. On their way they encounter a few problems and meet Candy, a country girl with a dark side who suggests they spend the night at her parents’ motel, which just so happens to be next to their family-run circus. What these travelers don’t know is this circus is filled with sadistic cannibals. When a ragtag threesome of outlaws unexpectedly show up, guns-a-blazing, things really get out of hand. Not wanting the infamy of their very own massacre, the group must now fight their way out of a literal freak show of psychotic clowns, demented half-human creatures and a couple of giant galoots that all work for a circus family dead set on keeping their secrets safe.
