Kevin Bacon to Break Some Bones in ‘Southern Bastards’ Pilot at Hulu

Hulu’s Southern Bastards pilot is casting up with a new director taking over and Kevin Bacon landing the lead role.

In addition, Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard, The Punisher: One Last Kill) has come on board to direct and executive-produce the pilot, taking over directing duties from Nia DaCosta (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Candyman), reports Variety.

The official logline states that the show “follows a tenacious military vet into Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father (Bacon). What she finds is a murderous hornet’s nest of organized crime run by the winningest high school football coach in the South.”

Southern Bastards, which was picked up to pilot at Hulu in October 2025, is based on the graphic novels of the same name.

Bacon will play Earl, “The son of the legendary Sheriff Bert — who ruled Craw County with an iron fist, Earl is a tough but humble blue-collar army veteran. Eager to mend fences and reconnect with his daughter — and not afraid to stir the hornet’s nest that is Craw County.”

Kevin Bacon’s horror roles include Friday the 13th (1980), Flatliners (1990), Tremors (1990), Stir of Echoes (1999), Hollow Man (2000), and the television series The Following (2013–2015), and the forthcoming Family Movie, which premiered at SXSW.
