A24’s ‘Mother Mary’ Trailer Mixes Religious Iconography, Terror, and Body Horror

A24 has been teasing its “psychosexual pop thriller” Mother Mary for quite some time, but details were scarce – until now. It’s now clear that the latest film from David Lowery (A Ghost Story) is, in fact, a horror movie.

“Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance.”

The trailer has arrived, and it not only boasts a standout soundtrack featuring songs by Charli XCX and FKA twigs but also leans heavily into religious iconography fused with body horror and outright terror. Suspiria (2018), consider yourself warned.

Also starring are Hunter SchaferAtheena FrizzellKaia GerberJessica Brown FindlayAlba BaptistaIsaura Barbé-Brown, plus Sian Clifford and FKA Twigs.

Discover a feud that will haunt you when Mother Mary sings into NY/LA theaters April 17th and then wide on April 24, via A24.
